Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will tack on a surprise trip to Rome for the Pope’s inauguration and use the opportunity to hold a series of one-on-one discussions with world leaders as he basks in the afterglow of his big election win.
Albanese, a practicing Catholic, said it was an incredible honour to be attending Pope Leo XIV’s Mass of Inauguration in St Peter’s Square on Sunday. An estimated 200,000 people attended Pope Francis’ inauguration in 2013.
