Coalition will set 2035 climate targets, but only if in government

The Coalition will set an emissions reduction target for 2035 if it wins the election because it will be bound to do so under the law, as Opposition Leader Peter Dutton confirmed Australia would stay in the Paris climate pact under a government he leads.
But, like Labor, the opposition would not commit to a 2035 target before Australia goes to the polls, by May 17 at the latest.
