A Coalition government could impose caps on payouts to litigation funders under a policy being mulled to crack down on class actions in response to claims investors are speculating on lawsuits to make big profits.

Litigation funders are worried about the prospect of more regulation if the Coalition is elected at the federal poll due by May, and on Wednesday will kick off a campaign to rebut what it says are “myths” being spread by businesses to protect their commercial self-interest.
