The risks to the federal government’s new $1 billion digital ID system were laid bare by a report on Wednesday about the abject failure of another government-led tech idea, open banking.

There’s also the beleaguered data-sharing scheme My Health Record, where a snub by specialists means less than 2 per cent of documents on the platform are being reviewed by doctors.
