Minister resigns amid claims of ‘entrenched’ branch stacking

Victorian Aged Care Minister Luke Donnellan has resigned from Premier Daniel Andrews’ ministry over allegations of branch stacking, at the beginning of several weeks of hearings by a corruption inquiry.

The resignation followed testimony from federal Labor MP Anthony Byrne that misconduct such as a “very well-entrenched system of branch stacking” and using taxpayer-funded electoral officers to complete political work was “widely practised” in the state’s Labor Party.
