Employers have hit out at the proposal to add large retailers including Bunnings and Costco to mandatory rules for food and grocery businesses, warning extra regulation will stifle competition and growth.

Furniture giant IKEA signalled support for the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct and told a parliamentary inquiry into price-setting practices by big-box retailers that it worked with suppliers in good faith.
