Standing up at the National Press Club a couple of weeks ago for its first address of the year, Anthony Albanese outlined his government’s achievements over the past 2½ years and what he planned to do if re-elected.

Early in his speech, the prime minister nominated education as one of his proudest achievements in his first term. “For Labor, nothing is more important to building Australia’s future than education,” he said.
