Ageing population driving $140b blowout in spending

A doubling of people older than 65 and a tripling of those 85 and over will present major economic challenges over the next 40 years and be a primary driver of increased government spending.

The top five budget pressures will increase from a third to one-half of all spending within four decades, with ageing driving the shift based on the current trajectory, the new Intergenerational Report forecasts.
