Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett has warned the government’s upcoming social media ban for under-16s is not enough in isolation to protect children from online harm, including the risks posed by sophisticated artificial intelligence technology.
Barrett used her first major speech since taking the helm as the first female national police chief to spruik a new taskforce to help dismantle online criminal networks and “crimefluencers” cruelly preying on, radicalising and coercing vulnerable pre-teens and teenagers into acts of violence.
