$2.2b lost in federal IT fails after fifth project abandoned

Nearly $2.2 billion has been wasted on five failed federal IT projects, after an ambitious decade-long program to build a $341 million common back office system for the federal government was abandoned.

The decision to completely ditch the all-of-government enterprise resource planning project, known as GovERP, came after an expert panel found shifts in scope, changes in ownership and lack of commitment from departments had “culminated in a program that has not delivered as originally intended”.
