Australia is experiencing a wave of antisemitism like never before
The Jewish community deserves the full protection of the law, and a proper response from state and federal governments to ensure such attacks do not continue.
For the last 20 months, Australia has been in the grip of antisemitism the likes of which we have never seen. This continued on Friday in Melbourne.
Let’s be clear on what we saw. A mob of violent thugs smashed up a Jewish restaurant. An arsonist tried to burn Melbourne’s oldest synagogue to the ground while worshippers were praying inside. Vehicles were set alight and a building defaced with antisemitic graffiti.
