We can do better than ‘Saudi Australia’

Rather than emulating Venezuela, we could adopt a Norwegian model of government co-investment in future mining projects.

Sometimes a notable figure makes a thought-provoking remark seemingly in passing. Ross Garnaut’s comment at the jobs summit was a case in point.

He said: “In this successful Australia, rising standards of living will rely less on regulated wages and more on fiscal transfers than in the past.”
