The forgotten tax keeping women out of work

Removing fringe benefits tax on employer-subsidised childcare is a no-brainer if we truly care about lifting workforce participation.

It would be a dream if Australian households had access to early childhood education and childcare in the same way they do the public school system. But that remains a pipe dream.

If Australia wants to do something now to help parents struggling with the cost of childcare, the government should scrap the punitive 46.5 per cent fringe benefits tax slapped on employers who subsidise employee childcare costs.
