The recent debate about schools became heated when Citipointe Christian College in Brisbane insisted that students denounce homosexuality. Families that couldn’t agree with this and other dictums could, it said, be excluded from the school.

The gathering storm then formed a backdrop to another own goal, the Morrison government’s failed effort to legislate religious freedom laws.
