Defeated Morrison shelves religious freedoms until after the election
The Morrison government will prosecute its case for religious freedom laws during the election campaign after five Liberal MPs sided with Labor to ultimately scuttle the Prime Minister’s signature policy and erode his authority.
Just two days after Scott Morrison told his party room that support for the legislation was emblematic of the unity needed to win the election, he shelved the package when it became apparent it would also face internal resistance in the Senate.
