International student numbers slump as reforms bite

Tougher visa conditions and stricter checks are finally taking a toll on foreign students, with arrivals hitting a 10-year low and departures at a five-year high.
Only 46,570 students landed in Australia to begin their studies last month, the lowest March total since 2014 – excepting 2021 and 2022 during the pandemic – when 44,260 arrived.
