One of the strangest games in history is nearing a close and the successful delivery of the world’s major sporting event through the pandemic is a remarkable achievement.

Australian friends text me to say the Tokyo Olympics have been fantastic and an absolute godsend during what seem to be endless lockdowns there. Japanese friends text me to congratulate me on Australia’s amazing medal haul.

While I am very proud of our athletes, it is Japan that should be congratulated. Not only for its  medal rush but also for what appears to be a very successful delivery of the Games. As I have said from the outset – go Japan!
