Foreign influence laws pass free speech test in High Court
The High Court has rejected a challenge to foreign influence laws by right-wing think tank Libertyworks, which complained it was wrongly targeted over the first Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Australia.
The court ruled 5-2 on Wednesday that provisions under which Libertyworks was asked to register details of the 2019 conference it planned with the American Conservative Union (ACU) did not unduly burden the implied freedom of political free speech under the constitution.
