Greg Norman says he is willing to once again step in as a diplomatic conduit between Australia and Donald Trump, as the Albanese government tries to fend off US tariffs and after the US president appeared unaware of the two nations’ AUKUS submarine pact.
During Trump’s first presidential term, the Australian golfing star – who has a close relationship with Trump born of their joint interest in the sport – played a key role in connecting then prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and the president before Australia secured a tariff exemption the last time Trump was in the White House.
