More floods could be coming. After winter deluges gave Sydney its wettest July ever, the weather bureau says a rare “triple La Niña” may be on the cards.

This year’s La Niña events, which devastated the NSW Northern Rivers with multiple major floods, is officially over. But the Bureau of Meteorology says there is a 50 per cent chance of another La Niña event – part of the complex cycle of currents and air temperatures that typically means more rain over Australia’s north and east – this summer.
