No better time than now to set stronger net-zero targets
Now is the time to lead with conviction. Targets work; strong targets work even better. Cutting climate pollution is not just what the science requires, but an economic opportunity.
The 48th parliament kicked off in Canberra this week. One of the first – and most important – tasks for the Albanese government will be setting Australia’s 2035 target to cut climate pollution.
In thinking about how to make this decision, the government must consider the impact of past inaction and the enormous opportunity afforded by a strong target.
