Former European trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström has warned the Morrison government of becoming “more and more isolated” over carbon policy and rejected Canberra’s argument that a proposed EU carbon border adjustment is protectionism.
Dr Malmström, who lost out earlier this year to Mathias Cormann in a nail-biting race for the OECD’s top job, said Europe’s border adjustments were being studied by “an army of lawyers” to ensure their compliance with World Trade Organisation rules.
