Jim Chalmers won’t stop talking about Labor’s “responsible economic management” between now and the election. He even calls it the defining feature of the Albanese government, brandishing his two budget surpluses as incontrovertible proof.

It’s not just that the treasurer wants to destroy the credibility of the Coalition’s claim to its superior economic management. He is determined to shift the polls showing an increasing number of people are likely to believe that claim.
