Tax take to hit 19-year high

Booming migration, more Australians working and paying tax, and higher-than-expected mining profits will push the federal government’s revenue collection to its highest share of GDP in almost two decades.

As Treasurer Jim Chalmers prepares to hand down his fourth budget on March 25, economists are urging the federal government to stem its growing reliance on taxing working Australians to fund spending.
