Rebuilding post-virus Australia is not a cue for socialism

Labor must not over-reach itself with a great shift to the left. But we can still build a much better nation than the one we have now.

Addressing Labor’s 1908 national conference, future prime minister Andrew Fisher claimed: "We are all Socialists now and indeed the only qualification you hear from anybody is probably that he is 'not an extreme socialist'."

Hyperbole, yet Fisher expressed something of the national zeitgeist for more interventionist government.
