Perth developments stall as soaring construction costs bite

Western Australia’s peak property industry body says its hopes that soaring construction costs could stabilise have been dashed, as new data suggests the problem will only worsen and the list of major projects on ice continues to grow.

The state recorded the highest quarterly cost increase in the country in August at 5.4 per cent, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, even as residential construction costs moderated nationwide.
