One in 40 highly indebted homeowners are behind on their mortgage

Highly indebted home owners are increasingly struggling to pay their mortgages, with more borrowers to fall behind as high interest rates stretch household budgets, the Reserve Bank of Australia has warned.
About one in 40 owner-occupiers with loan-to-value ratios above 80 per cent were more than 90 days behind on their mortgage in May, according to new research by RBA economists Ryan Morgan and Elena Ryan.
