I am overly sensitive, perhaps, but I don’t believe Resources Minister Madeleine King’s remarks to the AFR Mining Summit should go unremarked (“BHP ‘prioritised investor returns over nickel jobs’”, May 23).
Ms King is in no position to pass judgment on BHP’s decision on whether to upgrade nickel facilities in the past. We are not aware of the decision processes at those times, but it has been evident that nickel mining has been a boom or bust situation for many years – and the booms tend to be short and sharp.
