JobKeeper saved jobs but killed productivity, says commission
Pandemic-era policies such as JobKeeper saved jobs but may have dragged down productivity growth by keeping workers attached to dud employers, according to research from the Productivity Commission that suggests a surge in young and inexperienced labour could also have made the economy less efficient.
Labour productivity has not increased since 2016, making Australia the sixth-worst performer out of wealthy OECD economies over the past seven years, according to consulting firm McKinsey.
