There’s one big difference between the 1983 jobs summit and now
The Albanese government has set a high bar by pushing for a tripartite accord on economic policy similar to the one that emerged from Bob Hawke’s 1983 Economic Summit.

“Hard realities”, “harsh truth”, “challenge”, and “confronting”. Whatever the word or phrase, the message from government, business and unions over the past week is “things are crook”.
But in the next breath it’s “let’s thrash out a deal”.
