Monash University vice-chancellor Margaret Gardner warns the six-week Melbourne lockdown will create enormous pressure on business and universities to make more job cuts, as chief executives caution the global pandemic is likely to mark us for a generation.

Melbourne-based ANZ chief executive Shayne Elliott, called it a "roller coaster" but argued the next Microsoft, Apple, Amazon or Uber may emerge from the pandemic, as online retailer Kogan.com shares hit record highs.
