‘Canary in the goldmine’: WA economy shows signs of tightening
Riding high for years on the back of a booming resources sector, the good times in Western Australia appear to be waning as consumer demand begins to weaken and businesses report the first signs of an economic slowdown already engulfing the rest of the country.
A WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry business survey has found confidence has slipped considerably during the June quarter, fuelled by weakening consumer demand, ongoing labour shortages and increasing labour costs.
