Business leader Tony Shepherd has urged corporate executives to prosecute the need for an industrial relations overhaul to boost worker pay and economic growth, arguing Australia must unleash a new wave of productivity reforms to insulate itself from global headwinds.

Mr Shepherd called on chief executives and directors running firms at the "coalface" to press the Morrison government and community on why a growing and competitive business sector is "what drives our economy and prosperity".
