The top economic policymakers from the US and China exchanged complaints in their first discussion since the Trump administration took office, kicking off what is likely to be a turbulent relationship.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng expressed “serious concern” over President Donald Trump’s 10 per cent tariff increase on Chinese goods in the call with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, China Central Television reported on Friday. For his part, Bessent “expressed serious concerns” about a host of issues with China, including “economic imbalances”, the US Treasury said.
