New Hope Group's $900 million expansion of the New Acland Mine in the Darling Downs has been thrown out by the Queensland Land Court.

In a decision that could be the final death knell for the project, which has been held up in the regulatory approvals process and court challenges for the past decade, Queensland Land Court member Paul Smith on Wednesday recommended Mines and State Development Minister Anthony Lynham formally reject the proposed expansion.
