Shares remain a good bet even though the recent seven-week rally in the Australian market has come to an end, said AMP Capital chief economist Shane Oliver.

The S&P/ASX200 has rallied 9.6 per cent from just over 4900 to over 5400 over that period but has come back a little this week to the 5300 level.
