Smaller plays are likely to outperform the bigger end of the market this week, with the small cap index rising 0.5 per cent in early trade.

This takes the weekly return for the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index to around 0.3 per cent compared with a fall of 0.7 per cent by the top 200 share benchmark.
