Private versus public markets? The debate is just heating up

The number of ASX-listed companies is falling due to fewer IPOs and more de-listings. The ratio is pretty stark, but ASIC thinks it’s too early to call this a structural trend. I think it’s perplexing not to.

Australian sharemarket listings have slowed as capital flowing to unlisted assets has surged. Now, the country’s corporate regulator wants to get to the bottom of it.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission wants to look at the role of private markets, if they are reducing the quality of opportunities in public markets, and how they can be better regulated.
