The 216 people who dined at a city restaurant or a winery at the weekend, plus other members of their households, were forced to go into a medi-hotel on Thursday for 14 days of quarantine as health authorities in South Australia race to try to eliminate the delta strain of COVID-19.
The state’s Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier said the extreme measures were needed because both venues were super-spreader sites and it was assumed there would be more COVID-19 cases emanating from them.
