Cardinal George Pell has won his High Court appeal in a unanimous decision with his conviction overturned and was driven out of Barwon Prison near Geelong in Victoria at 12.30pm today.

On Tuesday morning in Rome, just hours after Cardinal Pell's convictions were quashed and he was released from prison, Pope Francis reflected on Jesus being unjustly persecuted at daily Mass at the Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican.
