Amonth after ringing in the new year, Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler and wife Maureen are heading to Tasmania for their “annual bunch of friends February escape” followed by a trip to Japan’s temple-rich Wakayama region, hopefully with time enough to also trek the nearby Kumano Kodo pilgrimage.
In 2020 they’re also planning a visit to the island of Socotra in the Arabian Sea, often described as “the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean”.
