Tasmania isn’t only at the bottom of Australia; it’s also at the top of Antarctica. Hobart has been the gateway to the deep south for two centuries, long before geologist and famed explorer Douglas Mawson set off from there to survey the Antarctic continent in 1908.
“The port still plays a key role in supporting expeditions to the Antarctic, and is home to dozens of scientific research organisations,” says Marnie Craig, CEO of Business Events Tasmania, which brings scientists together to work on the latest cold-climate research.
