Four decades on, Raymond Blanc has more planned for his exclusive Michelin-starred gourmet retreat, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

There are no colourful balloons tied to the gate when I arrive, no streamers flying through the air. No sign at all, in fact, that this English country retreat is about to mark a big birthday.

But as Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, A Belmond Hotel, Oxfordshire, celebrates four decades of existence this year – and its restaurant marks 40 years of holding two Michelin stars, a feat unmatched by any other eatery in the UK – food fans are joining in the festivities.
