How did you get into singing? I was lucky to grow up around music. My grandmother was an opera singer, my grandfather played for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and my father played the piano at home daily. They inspired me, so I began guitar lessons when I was 10 and started singing around the same time. My parents even enrolled me in the Johnny Young Talent School (between baking lessons). Fast-forward 40 years and I still love singing. I wish my 20-year-old self could have cast off the self‑consciousness I had back then to enjoy the moment more. I’m trying to teach my kids – Elizabeth, 11, and Felicity, 8 – this lesson now.
