Cannes is to cinema what diamonds are to gemstones – the very best, most pure expression of the form. And so, it is no mere coincidence that the Cannes Film Festival, which this year marks its 75th anniversary, is inextricably linked to Chopard: the house has provided red-carpet jewellery, as well as the glittering Palme d’Or trophy, for 25 years.
Caroline Scheufele is the woman who made all of that happen. “It was 1997,” she recalls. “And I was with Pierre Viot, who was then the director of the festival. I was having a good look at the Palme d’Or displayed in his office and he invited me to redesign it.”
