Telstra swoops on Microsoft boss to steer AI push

Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady says Microsoft’s growing investments in artificial intelligence and cloud computing were a key factor in her surprise decision to poach the US software group’s Australia managing director to run the telco’s infrastructure arm.

Steven Worrall, who has been managing director of Microsoft’s Australia and New Zealand business for eight years, will join Telstra on September 1 to run the company’s InfraCo business and replace Brendon Riley, who is retiring.
