Sydney loves a winner said Tony Shepherd, president of AFL team Greater Western Sydney, after the Giants made their first grand final and silenced critics who said the AFL experiment should be abandoned.
The team remains widely disliked by many AFL fans who see the club as commercially manufactured, with generous draft concessions and financial handouts to make it viable, compared with their Richmond opponents on Saturday who were formed in 1885.
