Iga Swiatek, the best womens player in the world, has recalled being both annoyed and inspired by Ash Barty after surviving an early scare in the Australian Open amid a wipeout of local players.

Twelve out of Australia’s 21 hopefuls, including crowd favourites Rinky Hijikata and Daria Saville, had been knocked out in the first round by Tuesday afternoon.
