Pubs baron Bruce Mathieson snr says he has had a “fair innings” in the hotel industry and at 78 years of age now is the right time to step down as a director of ASX-listed Endeavour Group, which owns 340 pubs and the Dan Murphy’s and BWS liquor chains.

He will step down as a board member from June 26 and his spot at the boardroom table will be taken by his son, Bruce Mathieson jnr, who ran the pubs and poker machines division for the $13 billion Endeavour until late last year.
