German discounter Aldi more than doubled its net profit in Australia in calendar 2023, underlining its growing popularity with budget-conscious households as well as paying out bumper dividends to its parent group.

The supermarket chain grew sales to $12.1 billion in the year to December 31, 2023, up from $10.6 billion in the year prior, according to the latest accounts lodged with the corporate regulator, driving a surge in profit to $402 million from $177.3 million in 2022.
